Allergy Aware School

Allergy Aware School

At Lanivet School we have pupils with severe nut allergies and other food related allergies. Although we recognise that we cannot guarantee to be nut free in school, Lanivet School are an 'Allergy Aware' school. The school aims to protect children who have allergies to nuts yet also help them, as they grow up, to take responsibility as to what foods they can eat and to be aware of where they may be put at risk. We please ask that all parents/carers try their best to ensure pupils do not have products containing nuts in their lunchboxes or for a snack.

Please avoid bringing the following items into school:

  • Packs of nuts
  • Peanut butter sandwiches
  • Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts
  • Chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts
  • Sesame seed rolls (children allergic to nuts may also have a severe reaction to sesame)
  • Cakes made with nuts

Please be on the look out for products that may not obviously contain nuts, such as cakes with marzipan, products containing chocolate hazelnut spread or even pesto!

All of our school dinners, provided by Chartwells, do not contain any nuts.

Staff

Caution must be taken at certain times of year such as Easter and Christmas. If Staff distribute confectionary, care must be taken to ensure that no nuts are included in the product. Fruit sweets, such as Haribo are a better alternative.

Particular products that are a cause for concern are:
  • Celebrations
  • Roses
  • Heroes
  • Quality Street

Packaging must be checked for:

  • Not suitable for nut allergy suffers
  • This product contains nuts
  • This product may contain traces nuts

These warnings indicate that the product is unsuitable for school consumption.

Please support us in keeping our school allergy aware and keeping all pupils safe. Thank you.
